Artist Statement

The religions and spiritual beliefs of the world derive from a common human need for reassurance from the fear of the unknown that lies outside the physical realm of existence. Grounded in what is real, my work strives to reach beyond and into the unknown. Common motifs include vibrant colors to instill a sense of wonder in the viewer, smoke and incense as a nod to the holy, unattainable, or the soul, and the use of the figure to relate the work back to the self. A wondrous yet terrifying fiction is what I implore myself to create, but a fiction that is not so far off from the truth.
